Tom, what is your role at Tough Mudder?
Volunteer Manager as well as the guy answering all your customer service enquiries. (And our in-house model)
Tough Mudder myths vs reality:
Myth: Holding hands and running through Electroshock therapy together will help you to get through unscathed.
Reality: This is the only obstacle where abandoning your friends and family is acceptable. Forget the others, put your head down and run like mad!
Have you got any hot tips for future mudders?
If you are running with a team, make sure everyone is on the same page before you start. Completing the run together makes everyone’s life easier out on course and increases enjoyment and satisfaction levels immensely when you all get to that finish line. Leave no man or woman behind and all enjoy that ice cold beer together.
What 3 things do we need to know, to know the ‘real’ you?
- I’m sports mad – I can sit down and watch anything and I’ve got a team in all the major leagues around the world. Favourite teams are those in red though – Sydney Swans and Liverpool FC.
- Equally enjoy the cold and the sun. Give me the choice of a beach holiday or a snow holiday and I’ll be deliberating for hours.
- Lord of the Rings are without a doubt the best movies ever made.
If you had a superpower what would it be?
Photographic memory. It blows my mind that people have this talent I’m still hoping I’ll one day wake up and have somehow developed it myself. Forgetting things can be a real issue for me.
What is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure would either have to be chocolate or ice-cream, as boring as that is. Haigh’s Freckles and Magnum Almond are the favs but I don’t say no to anything really.
Favourite travel destination?
Whistler, BC Canada. This place is heaven on earth and has everything you could ask for in a ski mountain.
What does your average day look like?
A typical day includes responding to customer service enquires, coordinating the volunteer program, sending out merch and organising the corporate packages. Most importantly though, lunch time consists of myself and fellow TM team member Trent finding the best value Banh Mi in all of Melbourne.
