High School Kids Ready for a Muddy Challenge

Hervey Bay local and high school teacher, Michael Fuller has teamed up with his students from St James Lutheran College to take on Tough Mudder in South East Queensland.

Watch their story on Win News here.

Since completing his first Tough Mudder in 2013, Michael thought it was as great idea for students to experience team building and wellness activities outside of the school environment which resulted in 11 students joining him at the event last year.

Michael has seen positive changes at the school with the students who participated, they have  built stronger bonds with the peers and now have a better understanding of trust and teamwork. Michael believes more schools should get involved in supporting students with team building events like Tough Mudder to help strengthen their relationships with other students and improve their mental stability.

Research from beyondblue reveals one in seven young Australians experience a mental health condition, which is why Michael believes events like Tough Mudder provide a positive impact in teenagers and their mental stability. They learn to trust others, work together effectively and learn to manage their own behaviour maturely.

With weekly training sessions at the school gym, Michael and the students are ready to take on Tough Mudder in Woodfordia on May 19th.
