Ever wondered who are the crazy kids that work behind the scenes pulling together the best event on the planet? We’re a small, hardworking team who live and breathe Tough Mudder (yep, we’ve all drunk the Kool-Aid). It’s safe to say we’re all a little bit crazy, but as someone once said, it’s better to be crazy than boring!
So let’s meet the team, here’s Kat.
What is your role at Tough Mudder?
Marketing and Sponsorship coordinator.
How did you come to be working at Tough Mudder?
I was asked my a friend to help out at a small launch event a few years ago, and each year I come back in a new role. The first year I was Volunteer assistant, then Merrell manager, now full time Marketing Coordinator.
Give us an insiders perspective on the Tough mudder course/world. What do you know that we don’t? Have you got any hot tips for future mudders?
Well it’s pretty sad to say that I have worked at 13 events and have never actually run a Tough Mudder, but hopefully this is the year! But I can say that you definitely don’t need to a gym junkie to participate, we see people of all ages, sizes and fitness levels taking part in the course and they all tackle it differently, but the one thing that everyone has in common is the right attitude. Tough Mudder is not a race, it’s all about team work and having fun, and getting out of your comfort zone.
What 3 things do we need to know, to know the ‘real’ you?
- I love to travel! I’ve lived in 5 different countries, visited 35, and I speak Spanish and French.
- I love animals, especially my dog Archie, a 4 year old Cavalier rescue dog.
- I play soccer for Kings Domain FC.
If you had a superpower what would it be?
See into the future.
What is your favourite obstacle?
Electroshock Therapy. It’s amazing seeing people conquer their fears and get through it, and you also get some pretty awesome stacks so it makes amazing footage for our social media pages and the spectators watching get a good laugh.
Most memorable experience at TM?
The first time I heard Simon recite the start line pledge I got shivers, and I’ve heard it about 50 times since and it still gets me every time. It’s something very special and it really makes you feel like part of community and puts you in the right headspace to tackle the course.
What does your average day look like?
A long black coffee to start! Then putting together social media content, setting up sales and special offers, assisting sponsors with their content, brainstorming advertising campaigns, updating the website and writing blogs, and sending out email campaigns. Switching off at 5:30pm, and heading to soccer training, the gym or home to whip up something yummy for dinner.
